Bataan? Why? Well, why not?

Bataan may not have a cool breeze like Tagaytay, doesn’t offer white powdery sand and pristine waters like Palawan, but this small, beautiful province situated between the West Philippine Sea and the Manila Bay boasts vast beaches, historical houses and mountains that make it a perfect place for a weekend getaway. Not to mention it is only a 2 1/2 half hour drive from Metro Manila. What’s there not to love about Bataan?

1. Zero Kilometer Death March Marker

This was the starting point of the Bataan Death March in Bagac in 1942. You will also find a similar marker in Mariveles. After the U.S.-Filipino Bataan Defense Force during World War II surrendered to the Japanese in April 1942, thousands of American and Filipino prisoners were forced to march 102 kilometers from Mariveles and Bagac on the Bataan Peninsula to San Fernando in Pampanga.

2. Tortugas Bay Park

If you’re into bird watching, you should visit the Balanga Wetland and Nature Park, commonly known as Tortugas Bay Park.

4. Bataan World War II Museum

The only war museum in Bataan where you’ll see the WWII Surrender Monument here, as well as the Torture Chamber that was used by the Japanese during WW II. The chamber was locked but you can peep inside through the open window. Would you dare to look inside?

5. Dunsulan Falls

Unleash your inner thrill-seeker on outdoor activities at Dunsulan Falls like hanging bridge and rope. This may not be as beautiful as Kawasan Falls in Cebu and Maria Cristina Falls in Iligan, Lanao del Norte, Dunsulan Falls has its own charm.

6. Mt. Samat

The Dambana ng Kagitingan or Shrine of Valor at Mt. Samat is Bataan’s most historical landmark. It is a tribute to the valor of the Fil-Am soldiers who fought against Japanese during WW II.

7. Philippine-Japanese Friendship Tower

The Friendship Tower reminds us that after a war, we can still achieve peace and friendship. The Friendship Tower was inaugurated in April 1975.

Situated at the junction of the Gov. Linao National Road and the road to the Bagac town proper.

8. Plaza Mayor de Ciudad de Balanga

9. Pasukulan Falls
